Day 76 - Mundesley to Cromer
Date: Sunday 26th June 2011 Distance: 13.28 Miles
We
set off in blazing sunshine and found there were many long low hills to
Felbrigg and then Cromer where our weekend ended. Between Overstrand and
Mundesley there is no access to the sea or front but what we saw of the sea (and
there were some Cornwall like aspects) was a beautiful clear blue unlike the muddy
stuff we had been seeing since Essex and Suffolk.
It was a little inland beside
woodland and fields and then impressive Tudor Felbrigg Hall (NT) appeared at
the end of a long sweep of drive. It was definitely worth a visit . I
particularly liked the walled garden and the fact that locals could have
allotments within it. A cycle path went through the grounds though it looked
like rough stuff and we didn’t have
time!!!
We
left Felbrigg and soon were downhill to Cromer, famous for its crabs and full
of old flint cottages (we saw many examples of these yesterday!)
The
lifeboat was on an exercise and the long pier has a variety theatre. We cycled
round the town (one way system) and noted 19th century buildings, winding
streets of some character and restored cottages forming a local museum. The
train left shortly so we found the station and travelled back to Norwich where the
car was still safely in the underground car park and out of the hot sun luckily
for us! Thanks to the Premier Inn for free parking!
