Day 31 - Bristol to Weston Super Mare
Date:
Saturday 24th October 2009
Distance: 36.68
Off
from home at 7:30am for the drive south. Drove to Weston Super Mare, then took
the train back to Bristol for the ride. Good value at the car park, only £1:20
for the whole day. We were going to get
off at Parson Street, but the train was so busy we stayed on until Bristol
Temple Meads.
The
first 6 miles we retraced our steps out of Bristol up the Avon Valley. Nice
cycle track, under the Clifton suspension bridge. Last time it was dry and
dusty. This time is was wet and a little muddy in places.
Through
PortBury and on to Portishead using a cycle track through a new housing
development not yet on the map. The road then climbed and ran parallel to the
coast giving some fine views. There was a pub called the Windmill set with lots
of seating giving views out to sea. Pint of 6x.
The
next place was Clevedon. Bob had a Bacon and Sausage Baguette to provide energy
for riding into the 25 mph wind. From there out into the lanes. There was a cycleway
from Yatton over to the A370 which Bob had spotted on the train ride out.
A
few more lanes, then into Weston-Supermare from the North along the toll road just
as the sun was going down. We didn’t see anywhere where they collected a toll
but it was a nice road for cycling.
Back
to the Car parked at the station and drove to Bridgwater where we were booked
into the Premier Inn for the night. Hotel good, Brewers Fayre next door a bit disappointing.
Hard day, so we just had our meal, watched strictly come dancing and went to
bed.
